    SPECIALIST POLISHED FINISHES

Great custom finish for your cast iron radiators

    Hand Burnished

A hand burnished finish will have received a high degree of polishing using fine ceramic abrasives which is then buffed with a stitched polishing mop. This process is very time consuming but the result is a finish full of character and makes an excellent centrepiece to a room.

    Satin Polished

This is created using the same ceramic abrasive process as hand burnished but the final polishing process is changed to give a more subtle sheen and a wonderful antiqued quality. Both hand burnished and satin polished finishes can be lacquered if required which ensures no further maintenance is required.

    Highlight Polish

Each radiator section is first painted in a colour of choice, this is most often black. The raised pattern is then delicately polished by hand using a fine abrasive wheel. This then accentuates the pattern and creates a beautifully authentic aged look and feel.

  • Cast Iron Radiator Building Steps

Step 1. Select how many Radiator Sections

A section of a Cast Iron Radiator refers to each individual Cast Iron piece that, when fixed together, make up a Radiator.
    Antoinette-Cast-Iron-Radiator.jpeg

Step2 . Select your colour finish

A section of a Cast Iron Radiator refers to each individual Cast Iron piece that, when fixed together, make up a Radiator.
    Carron Cast Radiator Colours.jpg

    Step 3. Choose Radiator Valves

All our radiators come tested & sealed, but you will need main radiator valves in order to fit and operate each radiator. Browse our extensive range of manual and Thermostatic radiator valves which are all ½” Bsp to match our cast iron radiators. We offer a great range of styles and finishes to suit all tastes.
    Carron Cast Iron Radiator Valve

Step 4. Select your Bleeding Valves

Bleed valves for purging air from hot water radiators. Vacuum breakers to let air into thermostatically-controlled steam radiators. A variety of styles, sizes and finishes available.
Home Refresh Arroll Bleeder Valves – Polished Nickel 6

Step 5. Choose Wall Stay Brackets

Wall stays anchor your radiators to the wall giving it that extra stability needed to help prevent any movement. They also help protect your home, and radiator from any accidental damage. We recommend using a wall stay for every 10 sections.

What is the lead time for a Cast Iron Radiator?

Ready-made radiators can be dispatched for next day delivery if ordered before 12 noon, otherwise these will be dispatched within 1 working day from the order being placed. Bespoke, painted cast iron radiator orders will be ready for dispatch in 15 working days. Hand Burnished orders can take up to 6 weeks to complete. We shall contact you to let you know when your order is ready to arrange a convenient delivery date with you.

Can I install pipework before receiving my cast iron radiators?

All measurements given are for guidance only and should not be used for the fixing of pipework.Due to our radiators being bespoke and hand assembled, variations in seal compression and the machined faces can occur. We are able to supply measurements prior to dispatch once we have completed the assembly process should you require them. Home Refresh accepts no responsibility for customers who choose to install pipe work prior to having their cast iron radiators delivered to site.

How do I determine what size cast iron radiator need?

The size of the cast iron radiator you require will depend on the size of the room you wish to heat. A BTU (British Thermal Unit) is a unit of measurement of heat per hour. Each radiator comprises of a number of sections assembled at Trads. Each section generates a specific BTU. If you divide the total room BTU requirement by the individual section BTU output, it will give you the total number of sections required for that room, which may be split into one or more radiators as space permits.

Whats included in my cast iron radiator order?

Your cast iron radiator will include all leg and mid sections. You have an option to add wall stays, thermostatic or manual valves, bleed nipples and pipe shrouds to your order. For ready-made cast iron radiators you will need to continue shopping to add these items to your basket. For Build Your Own cast iron radiators you will be prompted to add these items in a step by step process.

How do I maintain my cast iron radiator?

Painted radiators simply need to be wiped with a damp cloth and dried with a soft non-abrasive one, as and when required. Our hand burnished finish on our cast iron radiators is offered with a lacquer coating for an additional charge, this will protect the radiator from rusting, particularly in a bathroom setting. If this option is not chosen we recommend a regular application of 3 in 1 oil. Rust can be removed from the radiator should it develop with WD40 or a similar product.

What guarantee is offered with my cast iron radiator?

All Cast Iron Radiators come will a full lifetime guarantee, subject to terms and conditions.

What connections will fit my cast iron radiator?

All our cast iron radiators and towel rails can be fitted using standard BSP fittings. BSP Sizes are always in imperial measurements – our cast iron radiators are fitted with half inch BSP reducing bushes, unless other specified.

What is my returns policy for my cast iron radiator?

As many of our cast iron radiators are ordered as bespoke items that are made to order, we are not able to offer a ‘Sale or Return Policy’ for non-faulty goods. If you believe your cast iron radiator to be incorrect or faulty please contact a member of our team who will be able to advise you on the best course of action to take. Email info@homerefresh.co.uk

What is the maximum operation pressure for my cast iron radiator?

We do not recommend running the cast iron radiators on systems that operate above 45 PSI (3.10 bar)

  • Handling Your Cast Iron Radiator Delivery

All deliveries are kerbside deliveries. Our delivery companies will not be able to assist with the lifting of any cast iron radiators into your property. The radiators will arrive wrapped and/or strapped to a pallet to ensure their safety during transit. Please ensure that you take the time to inspect your radiator on delivery. For Carron radiators, you have 24 hours to report any missing items or damages.

Cast iron radiators are very heavy! You will generally require two or more people to safely handle, move and position your radiators. We recommend that you have enough suitably able people on hand to take delivery of your order and to move the radiators into position.

When lifting your cast iron radiators off of the delivery pallet, you must manoeuvre the radiator from its laid flat position straight into an upright position. Avoid holding the radiators flat as this can put a strain on the gaskets between each joined section.

Never be tempted to lift a cast iron radiator on your own, or to drag it across any floor surface into position as this will result in strain on the water-tight seals and has the potential to cause leaks. Carrying cast iron radiators is made easier by preparing two very simple carry handles from some old wood, they shouldn’t be any wider than shoulder width. Simply slide the wooden carry handles between the sections at each end of the radiator.

Delivery & Returns

Delivery Times

All items listed on the website include an estimated delivery time and cannot be guaranteed. All estimates are based on a “working day” (Monday – Friday excluding Bank Holidays), starting the next working day after the Order is accepted. Various factors such as weather and stock shortages may impact the stated delivery time. In cases where an item is “Out Of Stock” or available for “Pre Order”, an expected restocking date is shown, where available, though it is subject to change. Until the item returns to stock, all dates are estimated.

Free Delivery and Delivery Surcharges

The vast majority of items for sale on the Website are offered with free UK mainland delivery, except for a small proportion of items that are only eligible for free delivery in certain postcode areas. We define the UK mainland as England, Wales and most parts of Scotland below the central belt. The Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland and any islands are not eligible for free delivery. In the event of a delivery charge being required, it is clearly labelled prior to completing an Order, and the relevant charge will be applied to the total at the Checkout stage. Charges are calculated on a per delivery basis, not a per Order basis, so multiple delivery charges may be applied in certain circumstances.

Delivery Handling

Our deliveries are handled by third party carriers; often this will be a specialist courier service or a vehicle directly affiliated with a supplier. Due to this, We are unable to guarantee the execution of any special delivery instructions requested when placing an Order, though We endeavour to do so. An Order with many items may be subject to deliveries from multiple carriers, and so we are unable to guarantee that all items will be received at the same time, or on the same day, though we work hard to try and ensure this. If You cannot be present to take a delivery, you must give us adequate notice of 24 hours to enable us to re-schedule the delivery. We reserve the right to charge for any re-deliveries as a result of You not being able to take delivery on the nominated day.

Receiving Delivery

All of our deliveries are a one-man, kerb-side service. Where required, You should arrange for help to unload the Goods during delivery, and/or for storing them inside the property after delivery. Upon receiving a delivery, We recommend performing a short visual inspection, checking that all expected items are present; consulting a delivery note if available. The delivery should be received, inspected and signed-for by the Delivery contact nominated on the Order. Once the delivery is signed for, responsibility for those items is then passed on to You. Therefore, We highly recommend performing a full inspection of the items immediately afterwards, prior to storing them away.

Inspecting Delivered Items

We recommend performing a full inspection as soon as possible to determine whether any items are damaged, incomplete or faulty. In the unlikely event that this is the case, We recommend notifying us within 48 hours of receiving the delivery, which will ensure a smooth Returns process. In cases where all of these Conditions have been adhered to, We will arrange for incorrect or damaged items to be replaced for free. Collection of certain damaged items – such as broken glass – may not always be possible, so You may be asked to dispose of these items separately.

Installing Delivered Items

We advise against booking any tradesperson(s) to install items until You are in receipt of the entire Order, and it has been thoroughly checked. Any delivery times given are estimates and cannot be guaranteed, therefore We cannot be held responsible for any consequential loss. Do not try and install any damaged or faulty items, and leave them in their original packaging where possible.
