SPECIALIST POLISHED FINISHES
Great custom finish for your cast iron radiators
Hand Burnished
A hand burnished finish will have received a high degree of polishing using fine ceramic abrasives which is then buffed with a stitched polishing mop. This process is very time consuming but the result is a finish full of character and makes an excellent centrepiece to a room.
Satin Polished
This is created using the same ceramic abrasive process as hand burnished but the final polishing process is changed to give a more subtle sheen and a wonderful antiqued quality. Both hand burnished and satin polished finishes can be lacquered if required which ensures no further maintenance is required.
Highlight Polish
Each radiator section is first painted in a colour of choice, this is most often black. The raised pattern is then delicately polished by hand using a fine abrasive wheel. This then accentuates the pattern and creates a beautifully authentic aged look and feel.

Wall stays anchor your radiators to the wall giving it that extra stability needed to help prevent any movement. They also help protect your home, and radiator from any accidental damage. We recommend using a wall stay for every 10 sections.Dimensions

How do I determine what size cast iron radiator need?
The size of the cast iron radiator you require will depend on the size of the room you wish to heat. A BTU (British Thermal Unit) is a unit of measurement of heat per hour. Each radiator comprises of a number of sections assembled at Trads. Each section generates a specific BTU. If you divide the total room BTU requirement by the individual section BTU output, it will give you the total number of sections required for that room, which may be split into one or more radiators as space permits.
Whats included in my cast iron radiator order?
Your cast iron radiator will include all leg and mid sections. You have an option to add wall stays, thermostatic or manual valves, bleed nipples and pipe shrouds to your order. For ready-made cast iron radiators you will need to continue shopping to add these items to your basket. For Build Your Own cast iron radiators you will be prompted to add these items in a step by step process.
How do I maintain my cast iron radiator?
Painted radiators simply need to be wiped with a damp cloth and dried with a soft non-abrasive one, as and when required. Our hand burnished finish on our cast iron radiators is offered with a lacquer coating for an additional charge, this will protect the radiator from rusting, particularly in a bathroom setting. If this option is not chosen we recommend a regular application of 3 in 1 oil. Rust can be removed from the radiator should it develop with WD40 or a similar product.

Handling Your Cast Iron Radiator Delivery
All deliveries are kerbside deliveries. Our delivery companies will not be able to assist with the lifting of any cast iron radiators into your property. The radiators will arrive wrapped and/or strapped to a pallet to ensure their safety during transit. Please ensure that you take the time to inspect your radiator on delivery. For Carron radiators, you have 24 hours to report any missing items or damages.
Cast iron radiators are very heavy! You will generally require two or more people to safely handle, move and position your radiators. We recommend that you have enough suitably able people on hand to take delivery of your order and to move the radiators into position.
When lifting your cast iron radiators off of the delivery pallet, you must manoeuvre the radiator from its laid flat position straight into an upright position. Avoid holding the radiators flat as this can put a strain on the gaskets between each joined section.
Never be tempted to lift a cast iron radiator on your own, or to drag it across any floor surface into position as this will result in strain on the water-tight seals and has the potential to cause leaks. Carrying cast iron radiators is made easier by preparing two very simple carry handles from some old wood, they shouldn’t be any wider than shoulder width. Simply slide the wooden carry handles between the sections at each end of the radiator.
